What is a bath bombs?
Bath bombs are palm-sized spheres or blocks that fizzle and dissolve rapidly when tossed into your bath water. Not only do they add a bit of fun to your bath but ours are made with variety of all-natural ingredients, designed to soothe, detox and help you relax.
How do you make them? We mix together citric acid and baking soda, then add a blend of essential oils, plant oils and a bit of witch hazel to help it stick together. Then the mixture gets hand-pressed into a mold at our Workshop in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Check out this video of how we make our bath bombs:
Are the bath bombs quite fragrant? Yes. If you are sensitive to scent, bath bomb might not be a good choice for you. Instead, you could try adding bath salts, which are a little less fragrant but still provide a great detoxifying and relaxing bath experience. |
What makes them fizz and dissolve?
The reaction between baking soda and citric acid is responsible for the fizzing action. When the bomb touches water, the sodium bicarbonate in it reacts with the citric acid to release carbon dioxide gas. The bath bomb starts to break apart as this happens, releasing with it the pigments, essential oils, and skin-conditioning plant oils.
How long can I keep a bath bomb before using? Store your bath bombs in an airtight container or a ziplock bag in a cool dark place. This helps to protect the bath bomb from moisture and keeps it from drying out or losing scent. We always recommend using our products sooner rather than later. The longer you wait, the less effective the product will be unless it is stored well. |
